Between the Sheets: Marita

‘’Between the sheets’’ is an honest series on our blog where we bring together KS lingerie worn by real ladies, lots of girl-talk & some of their beauty tips & tricks.

This editorial took its sheets to a cool art studio as our star was a badass artist. Meet Marita Liivak. Despite her young age, she has developed her own outstanding handwriting. She has gained recognition both in Estonia and the international art scene. At the heart of Marita's work is a woman with all her worries and joys. Much of her work is driven by a common mental problem (such as eating disorders, anxiety, etc.). However, Marita's work is not at all gloomy. Her work overcomes these worries and serves the purpose of empowerment. Today Marita is fully dedicated to art, working as a full-time artist in her studio in Tallinn.

How did art find you? What inspires you? Art has been with me since the very beginning. It’s hard to say why or how art chose me but I’m grateful it did. I don’t know who I’d be without it. I’m most interested in and inspired by people and emotion. My work is auto-biographical so everything comes from within me but the way the energy flows depends on life and it’s doings.

What's it like being an independent artist? How do you find balance in your life? Being an independent artist to me is quite chaotic. I’m 100% responsible for my life and my work so it’s hard to know what you’re doing at times and learning to trust the process is a crucial learning curve. On the one hand I’m free and on the other I there are days where I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do. Being balanced is honestly a challenge for me, because I’m the kind of person that tends to hang around at the extremes but I’m trying to be calmer and more patient. In addition, having training classes which happen weekly at certain times and having a dog that needs tending to help me stay in touch with the real world.

Have you ever got into a funny or awkward lingerie situation? I used to do ballet as a kid and the dresscode was super strict, not a single hair strand could stand on your head. It happened a few times that I forgot to pack the right underwear and then had to try and fit some bright pink briefs under my black leotard. It was very stressful and awkward and never went unnoticed by the trainer's sharp eye.

What do you love about your body? Anything special you're doing for it? I love my bum, not only for it’s aesthetics but for the strength of the gluteus maximus. I used to do a lot of weight lifting so training the bum was definitely my favorite part since it’s such a central muscle. Today I enjoy dancing more than lifting so I guess I love keeping the muscle strong one way or another.

Share your favourite comfort-food recipe! My favourite dish is whole-grain pasta with zucchini and tofu. I cut the zucchini and tofu into pieces, in a heated pan I add coconut oil and onions, then the zucchini and tofu and top it all off with pesto. Mix with the pasta and drizzle some parmesan on top and sometimes have a glass of wine with it.

Song to always dance along to? Mixed latin beats always get me going.
