On my last trip to New York I had the pleasure to witness the first batch of our collections being launched in the coolest fashion boutique in the world - Opening Ceremony.
Founded in 2002 by two friends Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, Opening Ceremony has been flying high – they have become from a quiet street shop in downtown Manhattan to a worldwide sensation. Their unique fashion offering and the way they have experimented with their marketing is just pure creativity. I´m usually not into buying coffee table books but Opening Ceremony´s 10th anniversary book is one that every once in a while when I get stuck in a creative rut, I flick through to get my inspirational juices flowing.
I had the honour to meet their fantastic New York sales team for a breakfast clinic – talking about the brand, our inspirations and the journey so far. There were about 15 sales assistants and store managers asking very spot-on questions about the world of designer lingerie which was a real eye-opener even for myself. One of my favourite questions had to be “What do you love and hate most about luxury designer lingerie?” Answer: I love the creativity of designer lingerie and hate the traditional norms of luxury lingerie.
